If you’re wondering how Apple’s progress on its new “spaceship” campus is going, a drone user that regularly flies over the facility has offered an update.
Duncan Sinfeld, who has been one of the most prolific videographers of the progress on Apple Campus 2’s construction, just published his April update. Over three minutes long and first reported on by Apple-tracking site MacRumors, the video showcases the current construction progress with flashbacks to see compare how far the efforts have come over the last year.
Sinfeld, who arguably delivers the best drone flyovers of the many people directing their unmanned aerial vehicles over the site, displays the closest views yet of the progress Apple (AAPL) is making for its upgraded headquarters. Sinfeld’s drone was able to get close enough to reveal that many more windows and window awnings have been installed. The flyover also features a look at an increasingly growing pile of dirt, which will be used for the massive landscaping efforts Apple has planned.

Indeed, the spaceship, or Apple Campus 2 as it will be known, will be one of the most energy-friendly buildings in Silicon Valley and the world upon completion.
The design, which was pitched by Steve Jobs before he died in 2011, calls for a full campus, complete with more than 7,000 trees and places for Apple employees to roam. The facility, which will have 2.8 million square feet of office space to house 12,000 employees, will feature 700,000 square feet of solar panels. Apple is also building a 1,000-seat auditorium for its famous big product events as well as a 100,000-square-foot fitness center for its employees.
During his company’s last press event on March 21, Apple CEO Tim Cook acknowledged that it would likely be the last announcement from iPhone maker in the Town Hall on its current campus. By year’s end, Apple’s new campus is expected to be completed, and employees should be able to start moving in. Whenever Apple makes an announcement next year at its headquarters, it is expected to take place at this new campus in Cupertino.
Until then, a lot of work still needs to be done. Sinfeld’s video depicts around-the-clock workers lifting solar panels, operating cranes, and more. Indeed, some parts of the facility still don’t have a roof overhead.

In addition to the campus, Sinfeld’s drone takes viewers on a close encounter through underground tunnels where employees will park. The video also includes what appears to be work being done on Apple’s new auditorium.
While construction crews are making some nice progress on the campus, trees have yet to be planted and landscaping is still a ways off as well. So, while Cook and his workforce may be moving into the new headquarters next year, it’ll be interesting to see how far along the entire project will be by then.
