This April 10, 2016 photo taken in Washington shows a woman reading an online version of a mockup of what a frontpage might look like should Republican frontrunner Donald Trump win the presidency, as it condemned his "deeply disturbing" and "profoundly un-American" vision. "Deportations to begin, President Trump calls for tripling of ICE (immigration and customs enforcement); riots continue," read The Boston Globe's fake headline, dated April 9, 2017. The Boston Globe has a pretty clear idea of what it thinks a Donald Trump presidency might look like.

The newspaper ran a satirical front page, preceding an editorial about the Republican frontrunner, that illustrates both humorous and frightening consequences of a Trump presidency—from sinking stock markets to comparing China’s first lady to a shar-pei.

Reuters reports that the following editorial describes the satirical front page as “an exercise in taking a man at his word.” Despite Trump’s ubiquitous campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again,” the editorial describes his vision for America as “profoundly un-American.” The front page uses actual Trump quotes and mocks his behavior on the campaign trail to bring his rhetoric and proposed policies to their “logical conclusion.” It envisages a future with curfews in multiple cities, a clash between the U.S. Military and the White House, and an ambassador Kid Rock.

It jokes that this imagined “President Trump” has changed Yellowstone’s name to Trump National Park, and trade wars with both China and Mexico have caused stock markets to plunge, potentially leading to a global recession. The mock-president has also tripled Immigration and Customs Enforcement units and passed sweeping legislation changes regarding libel law, targeting “absolute scum” press.

An editor’s note on the page reads:

This is Donald Trump’s America. What you read on this page is what might happen if the GOP frontrunner can put his ideas into practice, his words into action. Many Americans might find this vision appealing, but the Globe’s editorial board finds it deeply troubling.

The following editorial urges Republicans to choose an alternative at the convention in July, if possible. It suggests either House Speaker Paul Ryan or previous Republican nominee Mitt Romney, both of whom have said they would not run for president.

Trump’s campaign could not immediately be reached for comment.
