In addition to being an incredibly successful businessman, Donald Trump has also called himself an “ardent philanthropist.” But according to a new analysis, his charitable giving doesn’t include his own cash.
Over the past five years, Trump has claimed he’s donated $102 million to charities, reports the Washington Post. In a list of his giving that he published, though, there wasn’t a single donation of actual personal cash to a charity. Instead, Trump mostly donated free rounds of golf at his club, which could be raffled or auctioned off by the charities in question.
The list also included agreements to give up development rights on land he owns. The Post also notes that many of the items on the list are actually from Trump’s foundation, which he controls but is funded by donors other than Trump. He hasn’t donated to his own charity in years.
Allen Weisselberg, the CFO of the Trump Organization and treasurer of the Trump Foundation, told the Post that the candidate has given to charity out of his own pocket, but Weisselberg did not provide any documentation.
“We want to keep them quiet,” he said. “He doesn’t want other charities to see it. Then it becomes like a feeding frenzy.”
