Not-so-slowly but surely, Dell and EMC are putting the management pieces in place for when the two companies combine to become a tech supergiant.

The latest news, disclosed in an SEC filing Monday, is that Howard Elias, president and chief operating officer for EMC’s Global Enterprise Services, will be president of the global services and IT unit of the merged company after the deal is complete.

Elias who joined EMC (EMC) from Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) 13 years ago, had already been named co-chief integration officer, along with Rory Read, for the combined company.

Dell-EMC lay out brain trust of the future

Elias’ new gig will become official after Dell’s $67 billion acquisition of EMC is final, which could happen as soon as next month or as late as October.

The deal, which was okayed by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission in February, remains subject to approval by EMC shareholders—a vote is expected this spring—as well as regulatory sign-off in some jurisdictions.

Given the breadth of products that Dell, EMC (and its satellite companies including Pivotal, VMware (VMW), RSA, Virtustream, and SecureWorks) field, combining the teams internally and working with customers to deploy the technologies will be a big job.

In March, the companies disclosed that Jeremy Burton, currently EMC president of products and marketing, will be chief marketing officer of the merged company, and Jeff Clarke, vice chairman of operations and president of Dell, will retain those titles for the merged companies.

Long-serving EMC chairman and chief executive Joe Tucci will remain in those positions until the deal is finished, at which time Michael Dell will be chief executive of the whole company. VMware (VMW), which is majority-owned by EMC, will continue to be led by chief executive Pat Gelsinger.

Dell to buy EMC in largest-ever tech acquisition

EMC and Dell have previously said there will be an executive committee that will include all the business leaders mentioned above, along with Pivotal chief executive Rob Mee, Virtustream chief executive Rodney Rogers, and SecureWorks president Mike Cote, although SecureWorks has filed for an initial public offering, so that may change.
