For ice-cream lovers today is the best day of the year—Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day.
From 12 p.m. To 8 p.m. Today, the Vermont-based creamery, which is owned by Unilever (UL), will be handing out free ice cream at participating locations. Unlike other similar promotions that are limited to just one serving per customer, Ben & Jerry’s will give you as many scoops as you’re willing to wait in line for.
It’s an annual tradition that the ice cream maker has has going for nearly 40 years. According to Fox News, it first began in 1979, though it started as a Vermont-only event. It has since gone global, and last year the company gave out more than a million free servings of ice cream to loyal fans around the world. It’s possible it could hand out even more this year now that the company has expanded its consumer base—this is the first Free Cone Day to feature Ben & Jerry’s new non-dairy flavors.
It’s the second time in less than a month that Ben & Jerry’s is giving out free ice cream. On March 31 founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield went to Union Square in Manhattan to hand out free sundaes of “Bernie’s Yearning,” the flavor they created for Bernie Sanders.
