It’s not often Amazon discounts the Echo, the company’s hands-free speaker equipped with personal assistant Alexa. In fact, the last time the Echo’s price was lowered was for Black Friday when it was priced at $149.
For today and today only, Amazon has lowered the price by 15%, from $179 to $153.71. Of course, Echo is eligible for free two-day Prime shipping. The time-sensitive price drop is Amazon’s way of saying “thank you” for the firm being voted the most reputable company in the U.S., according to a banner on the Amazon homepage.

The only downside is the Echo is currently out of stock, meaning those who click the “buy” button during the promotion will have to wait until at least April 27, the date Amazon will have more stock to ship, according to the product’s listing page.

Amazon recently released two smaller Alexa-equipped products. The Amazon Tap is a portable Bluetooth speaker users can connect to a smartphone to listen to music or tap (thus the name) on the device to prompt Alexa. The Tap is also available for 15% off its regular price of $129.99, bringing the discounted price to $111.01. Again, it’s Prime eligible. But unlike the Echo, the Tap is in stock and will ship immediately.
The Echo Dot, a miniature version of the bigger Echo remains at its regular $99 price.

Since its launch, Amazon has worked with partners of hardware and software services to add new features, which the company calls “Skills,” to Alexa’s abilities. For example, you can control your Phillip’s Hue lights with a simple voice command, “Alexa, dim my bedroom lights.”
Users can also order items from Amazon, ask for random facts, or order a pizza from Domino’s using Alexa.
If you’ve been holding off on purchasing an Amazon Echo, it looks like now is as good a time as any.
