This week, Uber (UBER) is giving New Yorkers cheap rides and a free slice of pizza to mark an important milestone.
As of this week, the ridesharing app has officially been in New York City for five years. To celebrate the momentous occasion, each day this week will be dedicated to one of the five boroughs. People in that borough will be offered UberPOOL rides for a flat rate of $5, as long as the ride begins and ends within that borough. The company will also be partnering up with a pizza place in each location where riders can claim a free slice as long as they show their Uber app.
The week starts off on May 2 with $5 rides in Staten Island and pizza at Joe and Pat’s between 11 a.m. And 6 p.m. Uber will be updating its blog post throughout the week to let New Yorkers know where to collect their free food.
A separate blog post outlines each of Uber’s milestones in New York City these past five years, starting with its launch in May 2011. By August it had 1,000 active riders. That number grew tenfold in less than a year, and reached 1 million this past September.
