If your Internet has suddenly stopped working, you’re not alone.
A fiber cut has reportedly disconnected some people from the Internet. According to Engadget, the outages occurred in New York City, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and nearby areas, affecting customers of Time Warner Cable (TWC) and Cox. Outages were the result of multiple fiber cuts at network provider Level 3 (LVLT) that occurred on Monday evening in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.
“Multiple fiber cuts at one of our network providers are affecting TWC phone and some TV services in the New York City area,” Time Warner Cable’s Eric Mangan told Coins2Day in a statement. “We are in continual contact with the provider on its repairs and we have restored additional TV networks through our own facilities.” Cox confirmed that service for its customers has been restored.
The fiber cuts experienced by Level 3 were said to have been caused by construction from a third party. Level 3 has confirmed to Coins2Day, and stated on Twitter, that Internet connections have been restored:

Correction: An earlier version of this story said the outages affected Comcast. A Comcast spokesperson told Coins2Day: “Comcast customers were not impacted by this outage. Our system redundancies worked, which prevented our customers from seeing an impact from the Level 3 issue.” Coins2Day regrets the error.
