United Parcel Service Deliveries Ahead of Earnings Figures

While most delivery services offer basic location tracking services, UPS (UPS) is upping its game and allowing users to follow their packages on a live map.

Via computer or smartphone UPS will provide a “detailed view” of a package’s location when it’s out for delivery—though it will not show a driver’s exact delivery route. According to a press release, UPS also plans to add more services to the feature in the future.

To be eligible, customers will have to sign up for a free “My Choice” account. As of now, the feature is available to roughly 22 million users who have already registered, and only available for premium services.

The live map begins when the route is started and is updated every two to three minutes.

“Follow My Delivery is the latest example of how we use technology to improve the e-commerce consumer delivery experience from the point of purchase to the time of delivery,” said Teresa Finley, UPS chief marketing officer in a press release.

Neither Amazon (AMZN) nor FedEx (FDX) currently offer a similar service, though Amazon UK did roll out live parcel-tracking for a month in 2013. But that service would only allow users to track a package via live map if the parcel was already less than 15 minutes from the door.
