Mark Cuban says he’d be open to serving as vice president—to either major party’s 2016 nominee.
The tech billionaire and Shark Tank investor told Michael Wolf that an independent vice president to Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump may not be the worst idea during a segment on Wolf’s NextMarket podcast. He also said that it’s too late for him to jump in and mount a third-party bid for the White House.
“The goal isn’t to say, ‘Hey, I’m a Republican’ or ‘I’m a Democrat,’” Cuban said during the interview. “The goal is: how are we going to help this country? Maybe it’s time to have an independent vice president who can cross the aisle, communicate, and not be driven by dogma.”
Cuban’s made similar statements before, particularly when it comes to his openness to being Clinton’s running mate. “I like the fact that Senator Clinton has thought-out proposals. That’s a good thing because at least we get to see exactly where she stands,” he said during a May interview with Meet the Press, adding that he’d want Clinton to move more to the political center.
But the possibility of a Trump-Cuban ticket is a bit more interesting considering that Cuban has recently ramped up his criticisms of the real estate mogul. He explained the rationale behind his attacks in an interview with Coins2Day‘s Dan Primack on Thursday.
“I thought the media was asking the wrong questions [about Donald Trump’s wealth],” he said. “They were so enthralled with tax returns and his net worth. Those really have no basis on anything he does.”
