EVERYONE'S TALKING
• More gun violence. Jo Cox, a 41-year-old member of British Parliament, was gunned down outside a library in northern England yesterday afternoon. Cox was a rising star in the opposition Labour Party, a passionate advocate for victims of the Syrian civil war, and a vocal proponent of Britain remaining in the EU.
While details of the attack are still unfolding, the Southern Poverty Law Center is reporting that her suspected shooter, Thomas Mair, was a “dedicated supporter” of the National Alliance, a U.S. Neo-Nazi organization, which sold him a manual detailing how to build a pistol (guns are very tightly regulated in the U.K.).
Cox's death led the main groups in the Brexit debate—Britain Stronger in Europe and Vote Leave—to put a temporary halt to official campaigning ahead of the June 23 referendum on the country's European Union membership.

• Text to donate. Nancy Lublin's Crisis Text Line, a national, 24/7 crisis-intervention text hotline, has landed a $23.8 million round of grants from notable technology names like Melinda Gates, Steve Ballmer, and Reid Hoffman. Coins2Day

After failing to fit into a pair of size 16 H&M jeans—the largest "standard" size the brand makes—British woman Ruth Clemens wrote a Facebook post directed at the company that quickly went viral. Calling the pants "unrealistically small," Clemens asked the retailer, "Should I just accept that accessible and affordable high street and on-trend fashion isn’t for people like me?" Coins2Day

• Naked opportunism. Women in China are apparently using naked photographs of themselves as collateral on peer-to-peer lending site Jiedaibao. Horrifyingly, some lenders are reportedly using the photos to blackmail the borrowers, sometimes demanding sexual services when the women cannot repay their loans at interest rates that can be as high as 30% a week.
