Employees at Philadelphia International Airport are planning to go on strike during the Democratic National Convention as part of the fight for a $15 minimum wage.
Security workers, baggage handlers and cabin cleaners, who are employed by airline subcontractors, voted Tuesday to strike during the DNC, which begins July 25th in Philadelphia.Workers are organizing in an attempt to get higher wages and benefits, protesting a system of sub-contracting that exists in airport staffing, according to a release from service workers union 32BJ SEIU, and the union estimates 1,000 workers could go on strike later this month.
Airport workers are calling on the DNC to support them by taking action against American Airlines (AAL), which controls most of the traffic at the airport.
