The final night of the Democratic National Convention was a slow burn, a series of speeches all leading up to the moment that all of the Democrats assembled in Philadelphia had been waiting for — Hillary Clinton taking the stage and formally accepting the Democratic nomination for president of the United States.

Clinton was introduced by her daughter Chelsea, who gave a speech consisting mostly of anecdotes about her relationship with her mom and the times her mother touched the lives of other people.

Other speakers on Thursday focused on Clinton’s foreign policy chops, including several veterans and Ret. Gen. John Allen. Many focused on her tenure as Secretary of State.

There was also a healthy amount of talk about the historic nature of Clinton becoming the first woman to be nominated for U.S. President by a major political party.

The final night of the Democratic National Convention didn’t include as many household name speakers as previous nights — though House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi did give an address earlier in the evening. The energy in the room was clearly focused on waiting for Clinton to come to the stage.

Clinton’s speech ended what has been a partly tense convention on a primarily high note. The balloons dropped, the families of Clinton and vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine came to the stage together, and Katy Perry blared over the loudspeakers.

Now, the Clinton campaign must contend with the fact that recent polls show Donald Trump is making this a much tighter race than some thought possible. A bump for Clinton from this convention seems likely, but after that the real fight starts, and both candidates have their work cut out for them.
