If you’re wealthy and living in New York, you likely spend at least one August weekend in the Hamptons. But the two major party presidential candidates — both of whom happen to be wealthy New Yorkers — won’t be in one of the affluent beach towns to relax this month. They’ll be there to rake in some serious campaign bucks.
Clinton will be be on a fundraising blitz from Aug. 28-30 in the Hamptons, reports Politico. One of the nine fundraising parties will be hosted by legendary beach bum Jimmy Buffett—who is a friend of, but not actually related to, fellow Clinton supporter Warren Buffett. (Earlier this year, Buffett made headlines when he announced he was supporting Trump, but that turned out to be the democrat’s April Fools’ Day joke.)
Business leaders are heavily involved in the Hamptons’ push for Clinton. Loews CEO Jonathan Tisch and Rudin Management bigwig Bill Rudin are hosting a dinner at $33,400 a plate. Adam Sender, a hedge fund manager, and Infor CEO Charles Phillips also are throwing fundraisers for Clinton.
For folks who find themselves in the Hamptons and want a memento, the Clinton campaign will be holding a garden party where families can take photos with Clinton for $10,000 a piece. Because individuals can only donate $2,700 to the Clinton campaign itself, the rest of the money goes to the DNC, down ticket races and various state parties.
As for Donald Trump? He will be the beneficiary of Hamptons’ largesse too. Woody Johnson, the owner of the New York Jets and an ardent Republican, is hosting a party for the GOP nominee at his East Hampton digs, reports the New York Post. This may add a little fuel to the New York football teams’ rivalry, because Jonathan Tisch isn’t just the CEO of Loews — he’s also a part owner of the New York Giants.
Tickets to Johnson’s bash are going for $10,000 to $25,000 a piece. Entrepreneur/financier Anthony Scaramucci, is a co-host of the party, along with investor Howard Lorber and real estate bigwig Peter Kalikow.
Other Hamptons events haven’t been announced for Trump this month, but he did have a fundraising event at the home of investor Wilbur Ross in July.
Trump reported that his campaign had raised $80 million in July, while the Clinton campaign says it brought in $90 million.
