President Of Planned Parenthood Cecile Richards Testifies To Committee On Use Of Taxpayer Funding

Jason Chaffetz has joined the growing number of Republicans calling on Donald Trump to release his tax returns, albeit doing so with a fairly unforgettable turn of phrase.

“If you’re going to run and try to become the president of the United States, you’re going to have to open up your kimono and show everything, your tax returns, your medical records,” the Utah representative said Wednesday when asked about the issue on CNN. “You’re just going to have to do that. It’s too important.”

The House Oversight Committee chairman said that he was urging “both candidates” to “show both their medical records and their tax returns. Absolutely.”

Clinton released her tax return for 2015 earlier this month, following a prior posting of her returns from 2007 to 2014. Meanwhile, Trump has attracted controversy for repeatedly refusing to release his returns. The GOP nominee has said that they are under audit, and this month announced that he would not be making them public before the November election.

As Clinton continues to intensify the issue out on her campaign, Wisconsin Republican Rep. Sean Duffy also said this month that he believes Trump should come forward with his returns, adding to figures like Warren Buffett and Mitt Romney, who have been outspoken in calling out the presidential candidate.

Neither candidate has released their medical records, although Clinton’s camp has accused Trump of fueling what it calls right-wing conspiracy theories over her health. The Democrat’s campaign last July released a letter from her physician stating that she was in “excellent physical condition,” while a similar letter from her Republican rival’s doctor later proclaimed that he would be “the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.”
