Only days after the devastating earthquake that hit central Italy, Mark Zuckerberg announced Wednesday that he is traveling to Rome to speak with Facebook users there.
The Facebook exec plans on holding a live question and answer session in Rome on Monday, and encouraged users to leave any questions they may have in the comments section of his post.
It’s unclear if Zuckerberg plans on visiting any of the towns affected by the earthquake that has left 252 people dead so far, but did say he is, “looking forward to spending time with our Italian community after last night’s earthquake in central Italy.”
Rome is a special city to him, Zuckerberg wrote, so much so that he and his wife Dr. Priscilla Chan honeymooned there.
Shortly after the 6.2 magnitude earthquake hit, Facebook activated its “Safety Check” feature late Tuesday evening.
Launched in 2014, the feature allows users in areas affected by a catastrophic event—whether it be natural or otherwise—to check in as “safe.”
Just in the past year, Facebook has activated the feature following the attacks in Paris and Brussels, and again after a bomb explosion in Nigeria. The featured was activated for the first time in the U.S. In June following the mass shootings at an Orlando nightclub.
“I know it’s a difficult time for people who have lost homes or loved ones, and my thoughts are with everyone who was affected by the disaster,” he wrote.
