It’s that time of year again.
Starbucks (SBUX) is bringing back its (in)famous Pumpkin Spice Latte for the 13th year in a row, the company said Thursday. The drink will be joined on menus in the U.S. And Canada by the new Chile Mocha.
For those who need a refresher, the PSL (as some of the faithful like to call it) comes topped with a dash of pumpkin pie flavor, seasoned with cinnamon, ginger, clove and nutmeg. Some stores will also offer the drink with almond milk.
Consumers around the world can pop into a Starbucks store today for the PSL, even though the drink doesn’t officially launch until Sept. 6.
Starbucks’ Chile Mocha, which also debuts Sept. 6, comes with expresso, steamed milk, cocoa, and cinnamon pepper. It’s topped with a dollop of whipped cream and finished with a sprinkle of Chile Mocha topping. That topping is a mix of ancho and cayenne chile pepper, cinnamon, paprika, sugar, and a touch of sea salt.
“When we think about fall, often people think about warmth and spice, like cinnamon and apple pie,” said Michelle Sundquist, Starbucks senior product developer. “We decided to take that idea in a new direction with chocolate and a bit of heat.”
The Chile Mocha was inspired by several Mexican flavors including mole sauce, horchata, and champurrado. The team also tested out a variety of chile peppers before settling down on ancho due to its mild heat and sweet, fruity flavor.
For those worried about imbibing the drink while the weather is still warm, Starbucks has got your back: Both drinks will also be available as Frappuccinos.
