Delphi Plans To Close 21 Of It 29 U.S. Plants
DAYTON, OH - APRIL 3: Steam rolls out of a factory's smoke stack near the Delphi Chassis System Needmore Rd. Operations factory April 3, 2006, in Dayton, Ohio. Delphi asked a federal bankruptcy court to void its labor contracts as part of a restructuring plan that includes selling or closing 21 of its 29 U.S. plants. Six of the ten plants set for closure or sale are in Ohio, four within the Dayton area, and employ 7,500 plant workers. The Dayton area plants have an annual payroll of $260 million and in 2005 paid about $12 million in income and property taxes to local governments. (Photo by J.D. Pooley/Getty Images)J.D. At least three people are dead in Athens, Tenn. After a lone gunman opened fire inside a factory on Thursday, authorities said.

The unidentified shooter killed two people inside a Thomas and Betts plant building about 4 p.m. Before fatally shooting himself, WBIR reports. The male suspect was an employee at the factory, Athens Police Chief Charles Ziegler said at a news conference. His body was found inside one of the building’s bathrooms with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the police chief said.

Ziegler said it appears the gunman used a semi-automatic pistol.

It’s unclear what prompted the violence or whether the shooter knew his victims. The incident is under investigation.
