Donald Trump dismissed the position of his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, on how to deal with the humanitarian crisis in Syria
“He and I haven’t spoken, and I disagree,” Trump said during the second presidential debate on Sunday, when asked about Pence’s position that the U.S. Should be able to strike military targets operated by Syrian President Bashar Assad. Trump insisted that Syria—along with Russia—were fighting ISIS terrorists and that it was not worth trying to save civilians in that country.
Syrian and Russian forces are widely seen as training their fire on rebel forces, not ISIS.
Update:Pence canceled a visit to New Jersey for a fundraiser scheduled for Monday, NJ.com reported after the debate.
