After months of online protests, Chick-fil-A has announced the return of its classic barbecue sauce.
Chick-fil-A removed the condiment from restaurants in July in favor of a tweaked recipe called “smokehouse barbecue sauce.” Similarly, the chain switched out its regular buffalo sauce for a “zesty buffalo sauce,” but the outrage seemed to be focused primarily on the BBQ sauce.
The change even prompted one Chick-fil-A fan to start a petition requesting that the chicken restaurant bring it back. Since it was first posted about three months ago, almost immediately following the quiet switch to smokehouse, it has racked up over 2,000 signatures.
Chick-fil-A announced 0n Tuesday that it’s bringing back the classic BBQ sauce in a video in which employees read tweets from people who were disappointed by the change.
The classic barbecue sauce will return to Chick-fil-A restaurants on Nov. 7, and the smokehouse BBQ sauce will be taken off the menu. A company spokesperson told Coins2Day that the fast food chain would reward some of the condiment’s most outspoken advocates by sending them each a bottle of the classic sauce.
While other Chick-fil-A menu changes have also sparked some Internet outrage, we shouldn’t expect them to come back anytime soon. The spicy chicken biscuit, for one, was removed in favor of a healthier “egg white grill,” which Business Insider writes has brought in more sales than its less nutritious predecessor.
