BEIJING, CHINA - 2014/07/22: A KFC restaurant in a shopping mall. KFC, McDonalds, Pizza Hut and other Western brands are suffering a food safety crises in the Chinese market. On July 20, 2014, Shanghai Fuxi food Ltd. the meat supplier for well-known international fast food chains such as McDonalds and Yum Group, was exposed for using expired and bad chicken and beef. First there was the KFC Double Down, a pseudo-sandwich that substitutes fried chicken for bread. Now there’s the Chizza—KFC’s version of pizza that replaces dough with, you guessed it, fried chicken.

KFC will offer the hybrid fast food item in Japan come the beginning of November, according to Japanese news site Rocket News 24. And it’s exactly how it sounds: tomato sauce, mozzarella, and toppings like pepperoni, pineapple, and green pepper all layered on a piece of fried chicken.

The Chizza isn’t actually a new menu item. It first debuted in the Philippines last July, and has since been offered in various other countries including India, Thailand, Korea, and Taiwan. KFC’s decision to expand this chicken-pizza hybrid to Japan suggests it’s quite popular in Asia. However, as Rocket News 24 notes, it’s unlikely we’ll ever see it in the U.S. Considering how similar the Chizza is the chicken parmesan, it wouldn’t exactly be new and exciting.

KFC could not immediately be reached for comment.
