Amazon’s popular Prime subscription service may come with a new unexpected service: housecleaning. The e-commerce giant is looking to hire “Amazon assistants” to help Prime customers “keep up their home,” according to several job listings spotted first by t he Seattle Times.
Employees will help “with tidying up around the home, laundry, and helping put groceries and essentials like toilet paper and paper towels away.” In a previous version of the listing seen by the newspaper, Amazon said that the service would provide “timesaving assistance to Amazon Prime members.”

Amazon Prime has emerged as one of the key pillars of the company’s online retailing and streaming businesses. For $99 per year, Amazon Prime members can access and stream digital movies, music, podcasts, TV shows, and Amazon’s original productions in addition to getting free two-day shipping and one-hour delivery on certain orders. According to a recent Consumer Intelligence Research Partners report, Prime had 54 million U.S. Members as of earlier this year, up 35% from 2014.
This wouldn’t be the first time Amazon is entering into the home services market. Last year, it debuted Amazon Home Services, a marketplace for helping customers find help with local services including plumbers, cleaning people, and handymen. Earlier this year, Amazon said that customer orders for home services like plumbing and mounting TVs had increased 20% per month on average since launch.

The jobs listed in the recent advertisement would be slightly different because it appears that Amazon would actually employ these housekeepers, by offering them salaries, stock, and benefits.
Amazon has been steadily adding new services to Prime such as restaurant delivery, music streaming, and audio podcasts. Adding housekeeping could be a another way to make Prime more attractive to customers.
