Volkswagen will unveil Wednesday a Passat GT concept at the LA Auto Show that aims to show what the next addition to the automaker’s current lineup might look like.

The concept, which features more than 20 changes to the standard Passat sedan, was designed by the automaker’s North American engineering center in Chattanooga, Tenn. The design was based on feedback from U.S. Customers and dealers, Volkswagen said.

The concept is equipped with a 3.6-liter VR6 engine that produces 280 horsepower and a six speed dual clutch automatic transmission that is controlled via shift paddles behind the steering wheel.

The Passat GT concept also has black window surrounds, a black roof and truck spoiler, LED headlights, smoked tail lights, a lower suspension, and a sport muffler. The black honeycomb grille insert accented with red line gives a nod to the Volkswagen Golf GTI. The interior features two-tone black-and-grey seats and carbon fiber pattern door trim.

All of these features are meant to convey a message of speed and sportiness.

“The Passat GT is an early example of how the new Volkswagen North American Region will meet the needs and desires of American customers going forward,” said Dr. Matthias Erb, Chief Engineering Officer, North American Region, Volkswagen.
