President Donald Trump is famous for broadcasting his personality to his 20.6 million followers via Twitter.
Now that he’s in the White House, he has a whole new slate to color. At noon Friday, the 45th President of the United States inherited the @POTUS twitter handle that originated with President Barack Obama. POTUS stands for “President of the United States.”
All of Barack Obama’s POTUS tweets and followers were automatically moved to a new account dubbed @POTUS44.
Donald Trump’s POTUS account has so far gained 3.83 million followers in less than an hour.
Michelle Obama’s First Lady FLOTUS Twitter account passed on to Melania Trump, while all of the tweets from Ms. Obama’s account migrated over to @FLOTUS44.
Obama’s personal Twitter account, @BarackObama, with 80.8 million followers, will continue with its namesake behind the wheel—and as will Donald Trump’s @realDonaldTrump handle.
Similarly, the Vice President’s handle and White House account each respectively passed on to Mike Pence and Donald Trump’s administration.
