Most American voters think President Donald Trump should stop publicly shaming specific companies, according to a new national poll.

More than 61% of registers voters surveyed for the latest Morning Consult/Politico poll said the President should generally avoid criticizing companies. The survey was conducted shortly after Trump attacked Nordstrom on Twitter for cutting ties with his daughter Ivanka Trump’s clothing line. The President tweeted on Feb. 8 that his daughter “has been treated so unfairly by Nordstrom.”

“Terrible!” He wrote.

My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @Nordstrom. She is a great person — always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 8, 2017

The poll found that 66% of voters think it is inappropriate for the commander-in-chief to call out a company over business dealings with his family. Still, a majority of those surveyed said Trump’s public rebuffs had no impact on their view of the company in his crosshairs.

The poll of 1,791 registered voters, conducted Feb. 9-10, has a margin of error of plus or minus two percentage points.
