Snap Inc is preparing for its imminent and highly-anticipated public debut on the New York Stock Exchange, and the self-described camera company is pulling out all the stops.
In perhaps what is an unexpected surprise, Snap is making its buzzed-about Spectacles headset available to consumers nationwide. The photo and video-recording frames were previously only available for purchase to consumers (and some members of the tech press) who braved the elements and long wait lines at pop-up vending machines in New York City and Santa Monica, Calif. In November and December 2016.
Snap announced in time for Presidents Day that Spectacles now will be generally available to shoppers in the United States for the same rate: $129.99. That includes the charging case and cable. Buyers can select from three shades: black, coral red, and teal blue.
But just as there were long lines in person late last year, online customers should expect to wait as well. At the time of publishing, Snap noted on the product page that Spectacles bought right now will be delivered within two to four weeks.
Snap hadn’t previously announced when it would make Spectacles generally available, instead letting word of mouth (naturally via social media) drum up buzz and a wider following for the connected eyewear.
However, after declaring itself (to some shock and skepticism) in its S-1 prospectus as a “camera company” with what could be the biggest tech IPO since Facebook coming up, the move to sell Spectacles to the masses could give Snap a stronger footing as it tries to court investors during its whirlwind roadshow over the next two weeks.
Snap’s IPO is finally expected to debut on Thursday March 2, according to a document seen by Coins2Day.
