Views Of Samsung Group Buildings As Heir Jay Y. Lee Is Arrested on Bribery Allegations

Photos of the widely anticipated Samsung Galaxy S8 phone have apparently leaked online.

The supposed leaker, who went by the alias “Ice universe,” posted the images on Twitter Tuesday, claiming them to be sourced from a Chinese manufacturer of screen protectors. The Twitter (TWTR) account in question, which used a side-glancing cat in a cyan collar as its avatar, was less than a month old and had no apparent record of prior leaking.

SamMobile, a site devoted to tracking all things Samsung-related, first pointed to the images in a post on Tuesday. Coins2Day has not been able to verify the authenticity of the leaker’s claim. (Ice universe did not immediately reply to Coins2Day’s request for comment via a private message on the Chinese microblogging service Weibo.)

Ice universe’s photos appeared to show a handset with a larger, seemingly all-glass display and slimmer boundaries at the top and bottom, as has been rumored. The phone seemed to have curved glass edges, as originally debuted on the Galaxy S7 Edge.

A closer look at the phone also appeared to confirm that the device will not sport physical navigation buttons, such as “home” and “back,” as has also been rumored. Rather, the photos suggested that the phone will have digital versions on-screen.

Apparently confirming more rumors, the phone appeared to have a headphone jack, unlike rival Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone 7. The back of the phone was not shown in the photos, preventing anyone from seeing if it featured a fingerprint scanner.

The leaked photos are displayed below, per Ice universe’s Twitter uploads. You can expand the images by clicking on the relevant frames.

The Galaxy S8 will mark Samsung’s return to the market after its exploding Galaxy Note 7 fiasco. The South Korean conglomerate blamed faulty battery design for the handsets’ tendency to erupt into flames, which resulted in mass recalls.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S8 at an event in New York City on March 29, according to VentureBeat. The company has typically debuted its new phones at the Mobile World Congress annual show in Barcelona at the end of February, but it is taking another month to perform extra testing on the product, according to the report.

Samsung’s vice chairman Jay Y. Lee was recently arrested on charges of bribery. The scandal has led to the impeachment of South Korean President Park Geun-hye.
