Samsung’s upcoming high-end handset, the Galaxy S8, might be hitting store shelves in a couple of months.
The tech company will release its Galaxy S8 worldwide on April 21, Korea-based ET News is reporting, citing a “high-ranking official” at an unidentified wireless carrier. The report follows earlier rumors, saying Samsung is planning to unveil its Galaxy S8 on March 29 in New York City.
While Samsung (SSNLF) has kept plans for the Galaxy S8 close to the vest, the handset has been the subject of countless rumors over the last several months. Most rumors agree that the Galaxy S8 will come with two screen sizes measuring 5.7 and 6.2 inches. Samsung is also expected to eliminate the device’s physical home button to accommodate the larger screen size and instead place its fingerprint sensor on the device’s rear panel next to its camera.

On the power front, Samsung’s Galaxy S8 could shine, thanks to the Qualcomm (QCOM) Snapdragon 835 processor. It might also feature water-resistance properties and a new virtual personal assistant called Bixby, according to several reports.
The Galaxy S8 will be a critical release for Samsung. The company’s last device, the Galaxy Note 7, was discontinued last year after users reported fires and explosions in both the original and replacement models. Samsung has since apologized and promised better product safety, but the Galaxy Note 7 could loom large over the Galaxy S8’s release.
Samsung has confirmed that it’s planning to release the Galaxy S8, but said in January that it will not share details on the device at its keynote event at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week. Instead, the company is expected to focus its announcement on tablets, wearables, and other mobile devices.

The ET News report didn’t say how much Samsung might charge for the Galaxy S8 when it reaches store shelves in April. The report did say that LG, another competitor in the smartphone market, will be launching its flagship handset called the G6 on March 10. LG is expected to announce its smartphone at Mobile World Congress.
