Lyft has expanded its on-demand ride-hailing service to 54 new U.S. Cities Thursday as it tries to push deeper into the Midwest, East, and Southern states and take market share away from rival Uber.

The 54-city launch, which includes expansions into Iowa, Florida, Georgia, and Wisconsin, follows a similar push last month. Lyft launched in 40 U.S. Cities in January.

Both are part of the company’s expansion goal for 2017 to add 100 new cities by the end of the year. As of Thursday, Lyft is now available in nearly 300 U.S. Cities.

Lyft still trails Uber despite its aggressive expansion efforts. Uber has a global footprint with services in more than 70 countries and 460 cities, according to a spokeswoman. Meanwhile, Lyft is only in the United States.

On paper, it appears that Lyft is operating in more U.S. Cities than Uber. However, the two companies count cities in different ways.

Lyft, for instance, breaks out every city within the greater Phoenix area separately. Uber just lists Phoenix even though its coverage area hits all of the smaller municipalities within the metropolis.
