McFlustered? Now you can chill.
After a slew of angry social media posts and videos, McDonald’s (MDNDF) has announced the roll out of revamped ice-cream machines across its U.S. And European outlets, the Wall Street Journal reports.
That should be welcome news for the legions of customers who complained that the old machines were too often out of service—particularly in the evenings, when hankerings for the soft-serve desserts apparently came on the fiercest.
The frequency with which McFlurry-seeking customers felt they were turned away on the grounds that the ice-cream machine was down gave rise to a litany of conspiracy theories.

“I’m convinced there’s no way an ice cream machine would be down all the time with no replacement or repair of the machine,” one dissatisfied customer told the Journal. Citing the need to run cleaning cycles during off-peak hours, McDonald’s responded: “Customers who come in during that time may encounter a longer wait time or soft-serve dessert unavailability.”
The new machines will consist of fewer parts, dispense more flavors and require shorter offline cleaning periods according to the fast-food giant, which is trying to revive flagging sales in its North American market.
