Although President Donald Trump signed a bill Tuesday that updates NASA’s mission to include exploration on Mars, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk says it is not enough.
“This bill changes almost nothing about what NASA is doing,” Musk wrote on Twitter. “Existing programs stay in place and there is no added funding for Mars.”
Musk continued: “Perhaps there will be some future bill that makes a difference for Mars, but this is not it.”
The bill enables NASA to spend $19.5 billion for the current fiscal year.
Musk was responding to Recode reporter Kara Swisher, who posted President Trump’s tweet about the bill signing with the caption, “somewhere Elon Musk is smiling.”
