Nintendo’s NES Classic Edition has been one of the hardest video game consoles to find in stores. But it’s now available on Amazon through a third party—for a hefty premium.
The NES Classic Edition, which has a regular retail price of $60, is currently listed on Amazon for $171.95. It’s being sold by retailer WorldWide Distributors and fulfilled by Amazon (AMZN).
The NES Classic Edition is an upgraded version of the original Nintendo Entertainment System from the 1980s that comes with several of games from that era including Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, and The Legend of Zelda. The console plugs into today’s televisions via an HDMI cable and comes with a controller that is tethered to the device.

Since its release last year, the NES Classic Edition has been a hit. During the holiday season, whenever new units were made available online or at bricks-and-mortar stores, customers would buy them up in minutes. The same is true this year.
For its part, Nintendo has said that it’s manufacturing the console as quickly as possible to fulfill demand, but so far, it’s been unable to keep up.
The high demand and limited supply has apparently created an opportunity for small third-party retailers that have some consoles in stock to jack up the price. Major retailers, however, have kept the NES Classic Edition’s price at $60 if and when they have new units.
So customers are left with few options. People who really want the NES Classic Edition can pay a hefty premium and buy the console now. Others who are willing to wait can keep an eye on major retailers and hopefully snag one for $60.
