In this episode of our Tech Debate series, Coins2Day writer Robert Hackett and Time writer Lisa Eadicicco discuss Samsung reportedly testing foldable dual screen smartphones, which are expected to be produced by 2019.

Eadicicco thinks this would be an exciting step for the company, as well as the industry. She says the smartphone industry has not had much innovation lately besides expanding screens or optimizing for virtual or artificial reality.

Hackett disagrees. Considering the low sales of previous foldable phones—including NEC, Kyocera, and Sony’s tablet P—he says foldable dual screens do not sound so revolutionary. He adds that smartphone companies would need to outpace virtual and artificial reality technologies before they destroy the smartphone industry.
