Some of your favorite Star Wars characters — including Rey, Princess Leia, and Rogue One’s Jyn Erso — are getting their very own moment in the spotlight, Disney announced Wednesday.
The fan favorites will be featured in Star Wars Forces of Destiny, a series of animated shorts that will appear on Disney’s Youtube channel in July. The miniseries will be voiced by the actual Star Wars actors — namely Daisy Ridley, Felicity Jones, and Lupita Nyong’o.
“Star Wars Forces of Destiny is for anyone who has been inspired by Leia’s heroism, Rey’s courage, or Ahsoka’s tenacity,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “We’re thrilled that so many of the original actors are reprising their roles in these shorts which capture the small moments and everyday decisions that shape who these characters are. It is a fun new way for people to experience Star Wars.”
Hasbro is also creating a line of “Adventure Figures,” which are a combination of traditional dolls and action figures, according to Disney’s announcement. The leading ladies will each get their own 11-inch adventure figures as will Sabine Wren, Ahsoka Tano, BB-8, R2-D2, and Chewbacca.
Disney is already planning a two-part TV special that focuses on the storylines from Star Wars Forces of Destiny that will air this fall.
The stand-alone show and action figures come after Hasbro faced backlash for leaving Rey out of a Episode VII-themed Star Wars Monopoly set, the Verge reported.
