I’m shocked by the number of downright outstanding games on Microsoft’s Xbox One X.

If you’ve been looking for me in November, chances are, you’d find me parked in front of my Xbox One X playing through a variety of games that were both built with the console in mind and were “enhanced” by Microsoft to ensure they could take advantage of the console’s 4K ultra-high-definition video.

Of course, like any other console, the Xbox One X has its fair share of sub-par games you won’t want to play. But I’d venture to say that in my long time playing and covering video games, the Xbox One X has some of the best gaming experiences out of the gate of any console I’ve ever played. And even when I became bored with one title, I could move on to a myriad of others and enjoy myself.

But if you don’t want to waste time playing some of the bad games and only want to enjoy the top titles, here’s a handy list. The following games are fun, engaging, and best of all, downright gorgeous on the Xbox One X. And they should top your list of games to play on Microsoft’s latest hardware.

Assassin’s Creed Origins

If you’re in the mood for an engaging third-party adventure game that lets you act the part of an assassin in a long-forgotten world, check out Assassin’s Creed Origins.

Call of Duty: WWII

The Call of Duty franchise is back in form with Call of Duty: WWII. You’re an American soldier at D-Day 1944 in Normandy and fight all the way to Germany. It’s a first-person shooting game with great game mechanics.

EA Sports FIFA 18

Whether you love soccer or not, EA Sports FIFA 18 is a blast to play whether you’re alone or with friends. Pick your club, choose a stadium, and play soccer like you’re really a pro.

Forza Motorsport 7

If you want to see what it’s like to drive a gorgeous Ferrari or top-notch Lamborghini, Forza Motorsport 7 is a nice choice. The game is a simulation driving game, which means it makes you feel like you’re really driving the actual car. It’s awesome.

Gears of War 4

Gears of War 4 looks downright gorgeous on the Xbox One X. And all of that only adds to a shooter that is fun and engaging through and through. But if you’re squeamish, this game isn’t for you.

Halo 5: Guardians

So Halo 5: Guardians might be a couple years old, but Microsoft has “enhanced” the game’s visuals for 4K. The result? A better-looking version of a fun and immersive first-person shooter. Check it out.

Madden NFL 18

The Madden franchise has always been a favorite of mine (and millions of others) and Madden NFL 18 doesn’t disappoint. The game’s story mode, called Longshot, is expertly done and fun to play. And if you’re a football fan, you’re going to love it.

Middle Earth: Shadow of War

Middle Earth: Shadow of War is a shockingly sophisticated game with an outstanding story and beautiful graphics. It’ll take a long, long time to beat this one (some people have played more than 100 hours and are still going), but you’ll enjoy it all the way through.

NBA 2K18

NBA 2K18 is in many ways what a sports game should be. The basketball game has fantastic visuals, its gameplay is impeccable, and its franchise mode is second to none. Whether you want to play online or offline, NBA 2K18 offers a ceaseless amount of fun.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

Looking for an outstanding first-person shooter with historical context not named Call of Duty? Look no further than Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. It might even be better than Call of Duty: WWII.
