With Thanksgiving and Black Friday dominating the week, it’s been a slow one for Apple.
Over the last several days, Apple news has centered mainly on a report that the company is seriously researching self-driving cars and that it discovered a small number of student workers at a manufacturing facility in China working overtime. But it’ll likely be next week, when the early sales data on Black Friday and Cyber Monday comes in, that we’ll see just how good (or bad) of a week it really was for the iPhone maker.

- Apple has been loath to talk about self-driving cars, but the company has published research by computer scientists about the topic that the scientific community can review. The research, which was published in the online journal arXiv, describes a new software technology called VoxelNet that helps a car’s on-board computers detect objects around the vehicle. Apple said its software delivered “highly encouraging results” in identify pedestrians and cyclists.
- Academy Award winning actress Jennifer Lawrence this week described the traumatic experience of having her nude pictures leaked online in August 2014 following a hack into her and other celebrities’ iCloud accounts. She said that some people suggested she should sue Apple, but she decided against it because “none of that was gonna really bring me peace.”
- Apple and Foxconn this week revealed that their inspections of Apple hardware manufacturing facilities resulted in them finding a small number of students working there illegally. In a statement, Apple said that students volunteered to work at a plant in China and were compensated for their work, but also worked overtime. “They should not have been allowed to work overtime,” Apple said. The company only allows interns to work 40 hours a week.
