Technically, Black Friday isn’t until Nov. 29, but Sam’s Club is getting an early start this year by offering hundreds of dollars in gift cards to people looking for a new smartphone.
On Nov. 9, the store will host a one-day event offering members up to $650 in gift cards with the purchase of a new iPhone and up to $700 in gift cards for select Samsung smartphones.
Sam’s Club, a division of Walmart, is offering gift cards worth up to $400 for the purchase and activation of all iPhones (with the largest gift cards going to people who buy the iPhone 11 Pro Max) and up to another $250 card for eligible trade-ins. It’s also offering discounts on iPads, Apple Watches and Apple gift cards.
Samsung phones, including the Galaxy S10 and 10+, and the Note 10 and 10+, are eligible for gift cards of up to $450 (with another $250 possible for trade-ins).
Stores will open early on the 9th at 7 a.m.—the same hour Sam’s Club will open from Nov. 23 through Dec. 26 for holiday shoppers. Many deals, including some exclusives, will be available starting at midnight on Nov. 9. It’s worth noting that those Nov. 9 deals are technically not a part of Sam’s Club’s Black Friday offerings.
This is expected to be a banner holiday season for bargain hunters, so it’s not surprising that some retailers are hoping to get out in front of the competition. Earlier this month, deal tracking site Dealnews issued its forecast for Black Friday prices, including a prediction that at least one retailer would offer up to $400 in gift cards with the purchase of a new iPhone.
