College football fans are showing no signs of burning out on the Clemson Tigers.
The price for a ticket to Monday’s College Football National Championship Game on the secondary market is the second highest of all time, according to TickPick. The average ticket price stands at $1,631.81. Only the Georgia-Alabama matchup in Atlanta in 2018 fetched more, with prices averaging over $2,210 for that game.
Some tickets for Monday’s game are going as high as $1,933.
Part of the reason for that is location. This year’s game will be held at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, La. That’s basically a home field advantage for the LSU Tigers, as the school is based in Baton Rouge, just 79 miles away. And it’s not an onerous journey from South Carolina, where Clemson is located.
Ticket prices on other reseller sites are even more robust. At Ebay-owned Stubhub, the top ticket price is a jaw dropping $76,000 for a Terrace End Zone seat. Nine tickets are in the $9,000-$9,500 range. (Tickets start at $793 on that site.)
On SeatGeek, tickets start at $745 and go as high as $20,200, though most range below $2,500.
For what it’s worth, this year’s average is still better than what fans were paying when Clemson and Alabama met in Glendale, Ariz. In 2017. For that game, tickets on the secondary market were as low as $190, with an average price of $675, the lowest price since 2011.
This year’s National Championship Game will be played Monday Jan. 13 at 8:00 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
