Warren Buffett’s a big fan of Apple, but he never had much (personal) use for the iPhone—until now.

The Oracle of Omaha has, at long last, gotten rid of the Samsung flip phone he has proudly carried for years and joined the smartphone revolution. But, for now at least, he’s not using it like the rest of us.

“I am now using—not very often—the latest model,” Buffett told CNBC Monday afternoon. “[But] I don’t use all its facilities like most people.”

Despite all the bells and whistles and apps, Buffett uses his iPhone for just that – a phone.

It’s a baby step, but it’s a notable one. Buffett said his flip phone is now “permanently gone”.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has been trying for years to get the 89-year old billionaire investor to upgrade his phone. Buffett didn’t disclose when he finally made the switch.

He has, though, been very open on his fondness for Apple as an investment.

“It’s an incredible company,” Buffett, an occasional Coins2Day contributor, says about Apple. “I should have appreciated it earlier.”

Apple has become one of Berkshire Hathaway’s top stock holdings in recent years.
