Krispy Kreme has a graduation present for the Class of 2021.
The doughnut chain will give any high school or college senior a dozen free doughnuts from May 13. All they have to do is show up in the store wearing either their cap and gown or any “Class of 2021” graduation swag.
“It’s been a tough year for this year’s graduates, marked by virtual learning, canceled sports, limited school activities, altered or eliminated proms, and nontraditional graduation ceremonies,” said Dave Skena, chief marketing officer for Krispy Kreme. “We admire them, we’re proud of them, and we want to celebrate all of them.”
Grads will be able to pick up a new “Graduate Dozen”—a limited-time promotion from the company that includes a variety of specialty doughnuts, ranging from cake-batter–filled to the original glazed.
Krispy Kreme, of course, has been on something of a tear when it comes to free doughnuts this year.
In March, the company announced it would offer a free daily doughnut to anyone who shows their vaccination card at stores. (So, vaccinated seniors could, conceivably, walk out with a baker’s dozen!)
Last year, Krispy Kreme said it gave away over 30 million doughnuts to health care workers, first responders, teachers, coaches, and graduating seniors to help keep spirits up.
The chain also began delivering doughnuts nationwide, via its website or app, spreading its presence in communities. That comes amid increased competition in the past few years. McDonald’s has begun to explore the doughnut space, and Dunkin’ (formerly Dunkin’ Donuts) continues to turns heads with its coffee brands.
