Three billion people, or about 23.4% of the global population, have received at least one vaccine shot, but not all countries are equal.
The scenic island of Malta has the world’s highest vaccination rate, with 80.9% receiving at least one shot, according to Coins2Day’s COVID-19 global vaccine tracker. The country, with a population of about a half-million people, has been independent from the United Kingdom since 1964 and was recently added to the U.K.’s green list, which means people traveling from Malta are not required to quarantine upon arriving in the country. (A COVID test will still be required before traveling and after arrival.)
Malta said it will require all adult tourists from the United Kingdom to show proof that they have been fully vaccinated. While 65.7% of U.K. Citizens have received one dose, only 48.68% of the U.K.’s 66 million residents has been fully vaccinated, according to Our World in Data.
Compared to the rest of the G7, the U.K. Has the highest percentage of fully vaccinated people. The United States is a close second with 46.31%, while Germany (36.98%), Italy (31%), Canada (30.9%), and France (30.49%) are all in the 30% range.
