Andrew Liveris, former CEO and chairman of the Dow Chemical Company, is the co-chair of Build Together, a bipartisan group of CEOs pushing for passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework. The program is better known to most Americans as the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill.

That it’s a bipartisan bill is what Liveris thinks will help get centrists back into the mix in politics and keep the program running for the long haul.

“This is about demonstrating the path forward in the 21st century,” Liveris says. “That there are answers to things like climate change, there are answers to things like digital inclusiveness, to cybersecurity … and to helping freedom become the model around the world.”

He adds: “It’s a demonstration that America is willing to lead in the 21st century.”

Liveris joins Coins2Day co-hosts Ellen McGirt and Alan Murray on a recent episode of Leadership Next, a podcast about the changing rules of business leadership. Listen to the full episode below.

And why did Build Together decide infrastructure should be the issue worth supporting?

“If you can’t get agreement on that one,” Liveris says, “you know, game over on everything else.”
