iPhone 13 will double the storage but cost the same as iPhone 12

Apple has heard customer grumbles about its iPhones running out of memory.

The iPhone 13, announced on Tuesday, will come with double the storage capacity of its predecessor—a minimum of 128GB, along with 256GB and 512GB options.

The baseline model doesn’t feature many major changes. As is common with new iPhones, battery life received a boost—with an extra 1.5 hours on the Mini and 2.5 hours on the iPhone 13 versus the iPhone 12 models.

The camera has also been improved. The sensor for the wide camera is 47% bigger than last year, which lets it capture more light in darker environments. The iPhone 13 will also have the sensor-shift stabilization technology Apple introduced last year on the 12 Pro Max that helps reduce vibrations, resulting in clearer shots.

Apple also announced a new “cinematic mode” that lets people who are shooting video take advantage of a trick of Hollywood directors—changing the focus of the lens while filming in real time.

Meanwhile, the notch at the top of the iPhone’s screen—a subject of aesthetic complaints—has been reduced by 20%, giving owners a bit more screen space. And the new A15 Bionic processor chip is “up to 50% faster than the competition,” according to the company, though it didn’t cite which competition it was referring to.

Like the iPhone 12, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini will support superfast 5G data connections. Apple says the phones will be compatible with 200 carriers in over 60 countries and regions by the end of the year.

Pricing for the iPhone 13 Mini starts at $699, while the iPhone 13 will start at $799, the same prices as their predecessors. The iPhone 13 Pro, which has more advanced photo technology, will start at $999.

All iPhone 13 models can be preordered on Friday. They will be available Sept. 24.
