Amazon Web Services experienced an Internet outage on Tuesday, creating hiccups for popular digital services that rely on it including Disney Plus, Instacart, and Alexa.

Users reported problems impacting Amazon’s cloud computing service starting at around 10:20 am, according to Internet activity tracking service Downdetector.

Because many companies use AWS to operate their online products and apps, a huge chunk of the Internet went offline. Around the same time that AWS started to have connectivity troubles, users experienced problems with the Tinder dating service, Netflix, and Coinbase cryptocurrency wallets, according to Downdetector.

Even Amazon’s own products like the Alexa voice-activated digital assistant and core online retail app appeared to have problems.

According to a status page hosted by AWS, Amazon is experiencing technical issues affecting its data centers in Northern Virginia, known as the US-EAST-1 Region.

“This issue is also affecting some of our monitoring and incident response tooling, which is delaying our ability to provide updates,” the company wrote. “We have identified the root cause and are actively working towards recovery.”

An Amazon spokesperson referred Coins2Day to the company’s Internet status page for updates as to when the problems will subside.

In October, AWS experienced a smaller outage that occurred just a week after Facebook parent Meta experienced a major Internet outage that affected the company’s core social media app, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger app.
