Want to find your next job with an employer that offers fertility benefits? There will soon be a filter for that.

Career site The Muse—which helps between 6 and 8 million people explore career options monthly—will be adding fertility benefits as part of its job search filters by the end of March 2022, founder and CEO Kathryn Minshew tells Coins2Day.

The rollout is prompted by both hearing what job-seekers want, as well as feedback from employers who are looking to offer and highlight new benefits in an effort to attract talent during the “Great Resignation,” Minshew says.

“A lot of companies are looking to stand out right now, and offering fertility benefits is one way to do that,” Minshew says, adding that as far as she’s aware, The Muse is the first career search site to add fertility benefits as a search filter.

About a third of U.S. Companies offer some type of fertility benefit for employees, but the programs and provisions included can vary widely, from simply covering appointments with infertility specialists to offering unlimited In vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. Minshew says the new filter currently will be more one-size-fits-all, and include all companies that provide anything from partial coverage or diagnosis coverage to full treatment coverage.

“As the mandates and benefits vary by company as well as state by state, it’s a challenge to nail down what constitutes minimum benefits,” Minshew adds, saying that the site may change the criteria of which employers provide the minimum fertility benefits to qualify for the filter over time as the market changes. The team wants to add more filters as data as it becomes available to help narrow down job searches even further to specific benefits such as egg freezing or even IVF treatment coverage.

Similar to benefits like parental leave and tuition reimbursement, The Muse will be using self-reported data from companies’ HR departments to help job applicants screen employers’ fertility benefits.

Although fertility benefit information has been increasingly requested, Minshew says the top filters are still the traditional ones: health insurance, including dental and vision. After that, the top benefits that Muse users search for are paid vacation, 401k matching, sick days, remote work and paid parental leave.

“Our core audience is Gen Z and millennial candidates who are looking for a job at companies whose ethos, benefits, and values align with their unique professional needs,” Minshew says.
