Forget $5 meal deals or subsisting on ramen as you stretch your food budget. How does free steak sound?

Sizzler is launching a promotion that will let one lucky patron enjoy $200 worth of beef per month for a 12-month period, with 10 runners-up receiving a $200 gift card.

$2,400 worth of free food is nothing to sneeze at. Unfortunately, if you want to have a chance at it, you’ll need to live in California, Oregon, Arizona, or New Mexico. No other states are eligible for the contest. You’ll also need to live within 15 miles of a Sizzler restaurant.

To enter the Well Done Sweepsteaks, customers will fill out a form that, in addition to getting their name, email address and phone number, asks how they like their steak cooked and their favorite side dish. They’ll also have to give an example of an everyday victory they’re sharing, whether that’s a promotion at work or finally getting your teenager to clean their bathroom. The chain just asks that your victory be heartwarming, surprising or funny (as well as original).

The contest begins Oct. 1 and will run through Nov. 4.

“At Sizzler, we believe there’s no such thing as a ‘mis-steak’ when it comes to celebrating life’s wins,” said Sasha Shennikov, marketing director at Sizzler, in a statement.

Sizzler was one of the country’s first steakhouse chains and once a common site in several states. It’s largely located in the western half of the U.S. These days, though it still has several locations open in Puerto Rico. The chain declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy during the pandemic in 2020, in part to renegotiate leases with its landlords. The chain currently has approximately 77 locations, down from 107 in 2020.
