  • Tombstone is introducing a new pair of pizzas that offer a “french fry crust.” The pies will go on sale next month at Walmart and other retailers.

There have been innumerable unholy unions in the food industry, as manufacturers look to turn heads with odd pairings. This could be a heavenly one.

Tombstone has introduced a French Fry Style Crust Pizza—and while it’s not quite waffle fries as the crust itself, it’s about as much as you could hope for in a product that will be sold nationwide.

The potato-based crust will support two different pies. The first, Loaded Bacon Cheddar, is covered in cheddar cheese sauce and topped with mozzarella and cheddar cheese, as well as bacon and pork belly.

If that’s not your thing, the Chili Cheese pizza puts hamburger chili sauce over the potato dough, then covers it with mozzarella and cheddar cheese, red onion, and parsley.

Both varieties are gluten-free and will be available starting in July at Walmart and other retailers. They’ll sell for $6.49 (though prices may vary by location).

And with National French Fry Day coming up on July 11, the brand plans to give people the chance to win a taste of the new pizzas without a trip to the store. From July 11 through July 25, it will run a campaign to give away pizzas. More details on that will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

French fries and pizza might strike some as an odd combination, but in the grand scheme of the food world, it’s pretty conservative. Two years ago, for example, Starbucks announced plans to roll out a line of olive oil–infused coffees. (It gave up on those a year later.) And Hidden Valley announced a ranch dressing–flavored ice cream.
