Some 2021 and 2022 Mustangs are among 850,000 vehicles being recalled by Ford this week because the car can stall.
  • Ford is recalling over 850,000 vehicles. The company says a fuel pump problem could “result in an engine stall while driving.” In the first half of 2025, Ford has issued more recalls than any automaker has in a full-year period.

Ford has issued a massive recall of some of its bestselling vehicles, including the F-150, Bronco, and Explorer. The automaker is recalling 850,318 vehicles worldwide, with 844,098 of those in the U.S., according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The low-pressure fuel pump in the impacted vehicles could fail, “which can result in an engine stall while driving,” according to the notice from the NHTSA. Several makes and models released between 2021 and 2023 are impacted.

If you’re the owner of one of these cars, you could be facing the recall:

  • 2021-2023 Bronco
  • 2022 Expedition
  • 2021-2023 Explorer
  • 2021-2022 F-150
  • 2021-2023 F-250 SD
  • 2021-2023 F-350 SD
  • 2021-2023 F-450 SD
  • 2021-2023 F-550 SD
  • 2021-2022 Mustang
  • 2021-2023 Lincoln Aviator
  • 2021-2022 Lincoln Navigator

Ford, at present, does not seem to have a solution for the problem. Letters will go out to owners starting on July 14. A second letter will be sent when the company formulates a fix. Owners can also call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 with questions.

To see if your specific vehicle is part of the recall, head to the NHTSA website, where you can enter your vehicle’s license plate, vehicle identification number (VIN), or year, make, and model to search for any recalls.

Ford has been especiallyaggressive with recalls this year. As of the end of June, the company had issued 88 safety recalls, which the Wall Street Journal reports is more than any car company has ever issued in an entire calendar year.

Ford told the paper that it has greatly improved its product quality in recent years and it expects the number of recalls to drop due to internal changes.

“The increase in recalls reflects our intensive strategy to quickly find and fix any hardware and software issues and go the extra mile to protect customers,” said Kumar Galhotra, Ford’s chief operating officer.
