Turning Point USA leader Erika Kirk will speak about the aftermath of her husband Charlie’s killing in a prime-time “town hall” event televised by CBS News on Dec. 13, the network said on Thursday.
TL;DR
- Erika Kirk will discuss her husband Charlie Kirk's killing on a CBS News town hall.
- Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was killed by gunfire at Utah Valley University.
- Bari Weiss, editor-in-chief of The Free Press, will host the event.
- The town hall aims to address conservative concerns about CBS News' perceived liberal bias.
Bari Weiss, the network's recently appointed editor-in-chief and the creator of the Free Press website, will preside over the proceedings.
Gunfire claimed the life of Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA and a conservative political activist, as he addressed students at Utah Valley University on September 10th.
Kirk plans to field inquiries from evangelical supporters and figures in religious and political circles during the gathering, which will be recorded beforehand in a Manhattan studio. The broadcast is scheduled for 8 p.m. Eastern, pushing back the Family Film and TV Awards by seven days.
“Like so many people around the world, I will never forget the moment that Erika Kirk forgave her husband’s killer,” Weiss said. “I am eager to speak to her — and thrilled to be doing so in front of a group of Americans who I know will elevate the conversation.”
Weiss was hired by CBS News’ new corporate proprietors, Skydance Media, in a move perceived as an attempt to introduce greater political equilibrium to a news division that has for a long time faced accusations from conservatives of possessing a liberal inclination.
