  • Our thoughts: We love this memory foam mattress for its supportive, yet plush comfortability
  • What it does: Offers great motion isolation and pressure relief
  • Who it’s for: Ideal for side sleepers
  • What makes it different: hree foam layers offer tailored pressure relief and targeted ergonomic support

Pros

  • Medium firmness provides effective side sleeper support

Cons

  • No firmness options
  • Cooling covers cost extra
  • Pricier than other mattresses on our list

Our Thoughts on the Helix Midnight Luxe

The Helix Midnight Luxe is available in three king-sizes: King, California King, and an RV King (great for travelers who want to sleep luxuriously!). This Helix model ticks the boxes of all the major categories: It isolates motion, it offers pressure relief, and it has excellent cooling abilities.

When testing the pressure relief while side sleeping, Addie, a 25-year-old stomach sleeper in the lightweight category (130 pounds or less), noted that as someone with shoulder injuries, she felt little pressure on her shoulder and the mattress relieved most of the ache. “As a side sleeper, I find this very comfortable. I could snooze right here,” she said.

Helix Midnight Luxe during testing

While testing this bed lying on her back, Addie noticed that her body stayed aligned without sinking in any spots. “The pressure feels even all around. I feel like I am floating in a cloud. My body feels equally supported, like I am being held up by cute little Smurf hands.” Needless to say, she rated this mattress as a 5 out of 5 for pressure relief.

During our mattress bounce test for this model, the ball bounced 10 inches, earning it a 3 out of 5 on our bounce scale. We define this as an average bounce that falls between 9 and 11.99 inches. A springy and responsive mattress may be preferred by folks who change sleep positions frequently (combination sleepers).

Helix Midnight Luxe as best king-size mattress

Addie rated this a 4 out of 5 for motion isolation with a partner. “Whenever my partner was still, I felt like I was in bed alone. All movement (aside from bouncing) felt subtle, and I don’t think I would have felt it if I was asleep. I did not feel any movement when my partner got up out of bed.” We recommend this mattress for couples, combination sleepers, and folks looking for a springy bed.

  • Our thoughts: We found this mattress’s cooling capabilities to be excellent
  • What it does: Our tester loved the motion isolation capabilities; it almost entirely reduces movement
  • Who it’s for: Great for hot sleepers and couples
  • What makes it different: Costing less than $2,000, this mattress has great value

Pros

  • Returns to baseline temperature quickly
  • Memory foam is great for motion isolation
  • Costs under $2000, great value for a king mattress

Cons

  • Limited bounce can make it harder to move or stand
  • More firm than typical memory foam mattresses
  • Sourced and manufactured outside of the USA

Our Thoughts on the Nectar Classic Memory Foam

The Nectar Classic Memory Foam mattress has four different layers of foam for pressure relief, motion control, responsive lumbar support, and cooling.

Our tester, Courtney, a 29-year-old combination sleeper in the average weight category—defined as 130 pounds to 220 pounds—rated this mattress a 5 out of 5 for both motion isolation test and couple’s sleeping. While undergoing the motion test, Courtney noted that the balls in the container showed no disruption when she sat and laid down on the mattress. “The mattress felt solid underneath me, and I did not feel movement transferred throughout,” she said. Even as she rolled onto her back and got off the bed, the balls continued to slowly spin but did not bounce or show any further disruption.

Nectar Classic Memory Foam as best king-size mattress

During the couple’s motion test, Courtney barely felt any movement as her testing partner got onto the mattress and adjusted positions. She said, “There was one instance when I felt a slight motion, but it was not very noticeable. If I were asleep, I don’t think it would’ve woken me up.” As memory foam models often do, this mattress offers fantastic motion isolation for those seeking to reduce sleep disturbance.

While testing the bounce on this bed, our team noticed the ball bounced 10 inches, scoring it a 3 out of 5. This means that this mattress is moderately responsive. A moderately responsive bed may be preferred by folks who like to feel cushioned by their mattress without limiting their motion or position adjustment.

Nectar Classic Memory Foam as best king-size mattress

Our team was pretty impressed by this model’s cooling abilities. It took this mattress about 3 minutes and 15 seconds to return to its baseline temperature after Courtney got out of bed, earning it a 5 out of 5 for the cooling gun test. This is faster than other mattresses on our list, so we recommend this pick for hot sleepers.

  • Our thoughts: We love that this mattress comes in three levels of firmness
  • What it does: Offers a cooling experience with minimal motion disruption
  • Who it’s for: Hot sleepers, back and stomach sleepers, folks who like a responsive bed
  • What makes it different: The ultra-cool quilt topper contains cooling fibers meant to help keep your skin temperature around 88 degrees

Pros

  • Available in three firmness levels
  • Ultra-cool quilt topper included
  • Contains over a thousand individually wrapped coils for extra support

Cons

  • May not be too firm for side sleepers
  • More expensive than other hybrid mattresses
  • 14-inch height may require special deep pocket sheets

Our Thoughts on the Leesa Sapira Chill

Our tester Kayla tried out the Leesa Sapira Chill, a hybrid mattress that comes in three firmness levels: plush, medium firm, and firm. This mattress offers excellent motion control, great for couples or folks who co-sleep with pets or kids.

Our tester Kayla, a 34-year-old combination sleeper of average weight, thinks this is a great mattress for cooling aspects, which lines up with its name: “The mattress was noticeably cool when I laid down and felt almost like laying on a bed of snow. As I tested the mattress, the icy feel did soften but remained cool and became more temperature neutral.” Given the cooling abilities, those sleeping with another person may like this pick, as beds tend to warm up quickly with more body heat.

Leesa Sapira Chill as best mattress

That said, this mattress took about 5 minutes to return to its original temperature, scoring a 2.5 on the cooling gun test. It took a little longer than some of the mattresses on our list to return to baseline.

Kayla gave this mattress a 4 out of 5 for the couple’s motion test, feeling only minor movements as her testing partner shifted on the bed. “While I could feel my partner moving around it did not impact me whatsoever,” she said. “My body never felt jostled or disturbed through any of the positions.” It effectively reduces motion and sleep disruption; great for light or combination sleepers.

Leesa Sapira Chill as best king-size mattress

This mattress earned a 5 out of 5 after undergoing the bounce test, as the ball bounced 16 inches high. We define high bounce as over 15 inches. It is very responsive, meaning that this mattress may be preferred by folks who like to feel “on top” of the bed and want a spring-y response.

Kayla also felt incredibly supported by this mattress. She rated it a 5 out of 5, noting, “This mattress is one of the best that I’ve tried for edge support. While seated, it has a bounce to it, so it helps spring you out of bed.”

Kayla also found that the mattress sinks slightly, but is firm, and the slight movement allows for bounce to assist you as you get in and out of bed. She tried exaggerating her body movement to lay off the edge of the bed, and even then, she still felt safe and did not feel like she would fall. We recommend this mattress for folks who are looking for assistance getting in and out of bed and extra edge support.

Best Split King-Size Mattress: Saatva Classic

  • Our thoughts: Our favorite split king has three responsive firmness options
  • What it does: Offers a high-end luxury feel with a breathable organic cotton cover
  • Who it’s for: Couples who have different firmness preferences, back sleepers
  • What makes it different: It’s got a dual-coil design made of triple-tempered recycled carbon steel to help provide lumbar support

Pros

  • Split king option is great for couples who have different sleep styles
  • Split California King is also available
  • Three firmness level options

Cons

  • Minimal edge support
  • May be too firm for some folks, such as side sleepers
  • Hypoallergenic cotton cover is not removable; may make it more difficult to clean

Our Thoughts on the Saatva Classic

A split king mattress is typically 76 inches wide by 80 inches long, combining two twin XL mattresses side by side. Split kings are best for couples who prefer different levels of firmness, are helpful for motion isolation, and can be utilized with specialized bed bases to assist with elevation.

Addie tested the Saatva Classic in the split king mattress size with classic luxury firmness. This is a very responsive mattress with a high bounce, which we define as a bounce of more than 15 inches. During the bounce test, the ball bounced 23 inches. This mattress may feel more flexible and returns to its original shape quickly.

Saatva Classic mattress as part of Saatva Mattress Review

After testing the edge support, our tester felt that there was only minimal support, rating it a 3 out of 5. She felt that she might easily roll off the mattress and didn’t feel held in place by it. Addie said, “Lying on my back felt more secure than lying on my side. There wasn’t much sinking—but it didn’t feel supportive on the edges.”

Saatva classic as best king-size mattress.

Her experience was confirmed by our sinkage test: the mattress sank only 1 inch when Addie sat down. This firmness may be preferred by folks looking for secure spinal alignment, such as back or stomach sleepers. The mattress may also remain cooler because with less sinkage, there is more room for airflow around your body.

  • Our thoughts: We love this hybrid for its support and three king-size options
  • What it does: Offers cocooning feel, but still provides plenty of support
  • Who it’s for: Side sleepers, especially, but we also loved it for back and stomach sleeping
  • What makes it different: Includes two layers of memory foam to help with supportive cushioning

Pros

  • 365-night sleep trial available
  • Comes in three king variations (king, split king, California king)
  • Supportive hip and shoulder alignment for side sleepers

Cons

  • Arrives in a box, may take some time to off-gas and decompress
  • Mattress sinkage may make it more difficult to get out of bed
  • Not as springy as other mattress on our list

Our Thoughts on the Nectar Luxe Hybrid

The Nectar Luxe Hybrid is a mattress-in-a-box that’s available as a King, California King, and as a Split King. It’s cushy and plush, offering great hip and shoulder pressure relief for side sleepers.

Our tester Courtney felt cocooned into the mattress upon sitting on the edge, rating it a 3 of 5 for edge support. Courtney said, “I feel like I sink in until I reach the springs. Due to sinking in so much, I slipped off when standing up.” She found that the mattress did offer some assistance when getting up, but that she wasn’t able to spring up. This aligns with our sinkage test, which recorded that the mattress sunk 6.5 inches.

Nectar Luxe Hybrid as best king-size mattress

Courtney found this mattress to be great for side sleepers, rating it a 5 out of 5 for pressure relief. She said, “The mattress forms to my body nicely and my spine is aligned with no significant pressure on my shoulders or neck.”

Laying on her back, Courtney also experienced pressure relief. “My weight becomes more evenly distributed and I don’t feel as sunken into the mattress,” she said. So, given its versatility, both side and back sleepers may enjoy this model.

Nectar Luxe Hybrid as best king-size mattress

That said, this isn’t the firmest pick on the list, as it’s rated a 5 out of 10 for overall firmness. We recommend this plush mattress for those wanting to feel cocooned and secure, but not too very much on top of the mattress. If you’re wanting a firmer choice, we recommend the Saatva Classic Luxury Firm.

  • Our thoughts: This mattress is suitable for a wide range of sleepers and has great responsiveness
  • What it does: Includes five layers of support to adapt to your body and reduce tension
  • Who it’s for: Back sleepers, folks looking for temperature regulation
  • What makes it different: Contains a layer stabilization system to ensure its hybrid layers perform efficiently

Pros

  • 365-night sleep trial
  • More temperature neutral than other hybrids we tried
  • Protective bottom layer cover is fire retardant and helps with durability

Cons

  • No firmness level options
  • Not for folks looking for cooling features
  • Might be too soft for folks with a higher weight

Our Thoughts on the DreamCloud Premier Hybrid

Bella tested the DreamCloud Premier Hybrid mattress, rated the firmest mattress on our list. This is our pick for the best firm king mattress, scoring a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. For those who love to feel on top of their bed with little to no sinking, the DreamCloud Premier Hybrid is a solid choice.

When our tester Bella, a 21-year-old lightweight (meaning 130 pounds or less ) back sleeper, sat on the edge of this mattress, she only sunk down about 3.5 inches. That’s less than many of the mattresses on our list. She wrote, “It’s supportive, I feel that I am more sitting on top and sliding off than being cradled and bouncing off. There’s not a lot of sinkage, I feel like it holds me.”

DreamCloud Premier Hybrid as best king-size mattress

Bella rated pressure relief for sleeping on her back, side, and stomach all as a 4 out of 5, writing that the most comfortable positioning on this mattress was while she laid on her back. “I feel evenly supported,” she wrote. “This is the most comfortable of all positions, but I am typically a stomach sleeper. I feel aligned in this position. I don’t feel any pressure anywhere. My hips feel like they are sinking a little bit lower than the rest of my body, but I still feel comfortable.”

It’s worth noting that Bella prefers memory foam mattresses. So, for those like Bella who prefer a softer bed that’s more responsive, we recommend the Nectar Classic Memory Foam.

DreamCloud Premier Hybrid as best king-size mattress

When describing the cooling aspects of this mattress, our tester said, “I felt slightly warmer on my bottom as I was sitting, but it did not feel uncomfortable. The mattress did not feel significantly warmer to the touch.” Therefore, we’d consider this mattress to be temperature neutral. It took about 4 minutes or so to return to its baseline temperature after Bella exited the bed, which earns it a 4 out of 5 on the cooling gun test. This is about average for the mattresses on our list. If you’re looking for a cooling mattress, you may like the Leesa Sapira Chill.

Best Affordable King-Size Mattress: The WinkBed Firm

  • Our thoughts: Looking for a king under $2,000? The WinkBed Firm offers great value
  • What it does: Comes in four firmness options and has a zoned coil system for alignment
  • Who it’s for: Folks seeking back support, people with higher weights
  • What makes it different: It boasts foam layers and individually wrapped micro-coils for a cushioned, yet very supportive sleeping experience

Pros

  • Includes a moisture-wicking, eco-friendly cover
  • Stays temperature neutral
  • Four firmness options

Cons

  • May be too firm for some folks
  • Heavy, may be difficult to move
  • Cooling cover is not removable, may be more difficult to clean

Our Thoughts on the WinkBed Firm

This mattress offers four firmness options: softer, luxury firm, firmer, and plus. Our tester, Courtney, tried The WinkBed Luxury Firm. It costs $1,799, which is much more affordable than other hybrid king mattresses on our list and on the market. You’ll save between $500 and $1,000 by choosing this mattress.

This mattress received a 4.5 out of 5 for our cooling test, making it a great pick for couples or hot sleepers. Before Courtney got into bed, it was 69.4 degrees. After exiting, the mattress heated to 74.5 degrees, staying very temperature neutral. She said, “The mattress did not feel like it got warmer as I sat on it. It also did not feel warmer to the touch after I got off it.”

WinkBed Firm as best king-size mattress

During the bounce test, the ball bounced only 1 inch, earning a 1 out of 5 in this category. As a result, this mattress has low bounce, which isn’t necessarily a negative. Beds with extremely low bounce can be good for folks who co-sleep with other people or pets, as it reduces motion.

Unsurprisingly, Courtney gave this bed a 5 out of 5 for both the motion test and the couple’s motion test, noting, “There was only an absolute minimum movement of the balls when I got on the mattress, during some transitions, and while getting off the mattress. During a more substantial body shift, there was some movement of the balls, but that may be due to the shifting of the bed frame rather than the mattress.”

Winkbed Firm as best mattress

When testing the bed with a partner, Courtney barely felt their movements, whether they shifted positions or moved on and off the bed entirely. This mattress is great for folks who may be sensitive to motion or are light sleepers.

  • Our thoughts: We like this mattress’s multiple layers of high-density memory foam to help avoid sinkage
  • What it does: Provides structure and support to promote proper spinal alignment
  • Who it’s for: Folks with higher weights who prefer a sag-free mattress
  • What makes it different: Comes in four king-size options

Pros

  • 120-night sleep trial
  • Available in four king-size options
  • Costs under $2,000

Cons

  • GlacioTex™ Cooling Cover is an additional cost
  • May be too firm for folks with a lower weight
  • Side sleepers may find this mattress uncomfortable due to lack of body contouring

Our Thoughts on the Titan Plus

Courtney tested the Titan Plus, which is available in four king-size options: King, California King, Split California King, and RV King, ideal for folks with larger bodies. It’s also specially made to handle higher weights, containing durable and supportive materials. It has a capacity of 1,000 pounds and is designed to be sink-free—Courtney put it to the test!

Titan Plus as best king-size mattress

She noticed very minimal spring when she got off the mattress, saying, “There is not a lot of sinkage, so it was not difficult to stand up. Due to limited sinkage, there is good support and a slight slide when getting off the mattress.” Courtney rated the edge support of the Titan Plus a 4 out of 5.

While on her side, Courtney felt that she was lying more on top of the mattress, rather than sinking into it. “My hips feel slightly higher than my shoulders,” she said. “However, this does not create a lot of pressure on my shoulders or neck.” She thinks this could be easily remedied using a supportive pillow, which could make her body feel more even and comfortable. Courtney rated pressure relief while on her side a 3 out of 5.

Titan Plus as best king-size mattress

The Titan Plus clocks in at an 8 out of 10 on firmness, making it a firmer option than many other king mattresses. Courtney frequently felt that she was lying “on top” of the mattress, saying, “It does not feel as if it contours to my body. The firmness creates discomfort at times and pressure on my back.” It’s important to note that Courtney shared that she experiences back pain on a regular basis, so she’s typically not comfortable with a firmer mattress. For folks looking for a less firm experience, consider the Leesa Sapira Chill mattress.

  • Our thoughts: We love the indulgent comfort and contour that this mattress offers
  • What it does: Provides great temperature control and motion isolation
  • Who it’s for: Side sleepers looking for pressure relief for their shoulders and hips
  • What makes it different: Five layers of foam, in addition to individually wrapped coils, help to reduce tension and provide spinal alignment

Pros

  • Returns to its baseline temperature in only 3 minutes, the fastest on our list
  • Isolates motion well for active sleepers and folks who co-sleep
  • Offers three firmness level options

Cons

  • Cooling pillow top costs additional
  • 15-inch height may make getting in and out of bed more difficult for some folks
  • More expensive than other hybrid mattresses

Our Thoughts on the Nolah Evolution

The Nolah Evolution mattress has three firmness levels: plush, luxury firm and firm. Courtney tested the Nolah Evolution Luxury Firm, the brand’s middle level of support. It’s 15 inches tall, which is about 3 inches taller than standard mattress height. This height gives the Nolah Evolution a plush and more high-end feel. It also comes with a lifetime warranty and a 120-night sleep trial.

Nolah Evolution as best mattress

While undergoing the mattress bounce test, the ball bounced 12.5 inches, earning it a 4 out of 5 on our bounce height scale. We define this as a moderate bounce height (which falls anywhere between 12 and 14.99 inches). A moderate bounce in a mattress is good for folks who move around a good bit and who don’t like feeling stuck or overly secured while laying on their mattress.

The starting depth of this mattress is 15 inches, and Courtney sank 4 inches when undergoing the edge sinkage test. This is only minor sinkage (3.1 to 4.6 inches), therefore earning a 4 out of 5 for edge support. More edge sinkage may be preferred by side sleepers who want to feel cushioned, and less sinkage may be preferred by sleepers who have a higher weight for better spinal alignment.

Courtney described her experience, saying, “I am sinking in, but it is comfortable, the mattress is cradling me. When standing up, I felt like the dismount was about 75% slide and 25% spring. I was already sunken in, so I felt like it was easy to slide off.”

Nolah Evolution as best king-size mattress

When laying on her side or back near the edge of the bed, Courtney found both positions to be comfortable. She did not feel that she was going to fall off the side of the bed. She reported “feeling supported and do not feel like I am going to topple over. All positions feel good … this mattress contours my body nicely.”

Other Mattress We Tested and Considered

We tested dozens of king mattresses hands-on in our lab. Here are a few that we considered but didn’t make our list of top picks, and why.

  • Brooklyn Bedding’s CopperFlex Memory Foam mattress had little lumbar support, and our tester’s weight as not evenly distributed while on the mattress, her hips felt a good bit higher than her shoulders
  • DLX’s Classic mattress offered very little motion isolation. Our tester noted that it was *too* bouncy, and she could feel her testing partner lifting and dropping their hips; not ideal for co-sleepers who may move around throughout the night.
  • Our tester found Bear’s Original mattress to be uncomfortably firm. When laying on her back she didn’t sink down at all, so her shoulders and hips felt awkward, and she felt tension immediately form in her neck.

How We Tested and Selected the Best King-Size Mattresses

We tested and evaluated king mattresses and scored them on a scale of 1-5 for factors such as motion control, cooling aspects, firmness, bounce, edge support, and value. Our testers evaluate the products based on their own individual experiences and preferences. We then review their testing feedback and data to share our findings and recommendations with you.

 Motion Isolation

When examining a mattress’s motion isolation capabilities, we run both a motion isolation test and a couple’s motion test. The motion test involves measuring the movement of balls in a container at one end of the bed as the tester completes several movements.

For the couple’s motion test, one tester wears noise-cancelling headphones and a blindfold, while the other tester completes a series of movements. The blindfolded tester then reports any motions they felt throughout the experiment.

Pressure Relief

When evaluating pressure relief, we first look at a mattress’s construction, materials, and firmness level. We then use a pressure map, which displays where pressure builds on a tester’s body by using heat-mapping technology during their evaluation. Not only do we gather this objective data, but the tester also provides their own description of where they might feel pressure when trying out the mattress.

Cooling

When evaluating the temperature control of a mattress, we utilize a thermal gun to record the temperature of the mattress before and after the tester lies on it for two minutes. Our testers also provide feedback on how warm or cool they feel, so we compile both objective and subjective data. Then, we also measure how long it takes for the mattress to return to its original temperature.

Cooling test as part of Saatva mattress review.

Bounce

When testing for bounce, we drop a medicine ball from a 6-foot height onto the mattress. We then measure how high the ball bounces into the air after hitting the mattress. If the ball bounces less than 5.99 inches, the mattress is considered to have an extremely low bounce. If the ball bounces over 15 inches, it’s considered to have an extremely high bounce. Between 9 and 12 inches of bounce is an average amount of bounce.

Edge Support

During our edge support test, we place weight plates on the mattress edge and then measure how much it sinks. We also test each mattress using a set of stacked plates that are approximately 130 to 150 pounds (replicating a real person’s weight), then measuring how much the mattress sinks. If our tape measure shows that a mattress sinks 7.9 inches or more during this test, we give it a 1-star rating. If the mattress sinks less than or equal to 3 inches, it earns a 5 out of 5. Finally, our mattress testers also sit on the edge of the mattress and provide a subjective rating out of 5 on how supported they feel.

Durability & Materials

When choosing which mattresses to feature, we also consider materials such as hybrid, latex, and memory foam. This may help you choose the type of mattress that’s best for your individualized sleep needs. We also consider materials that are eco-conscious and have special certifications.

Value

When considering value, we review mattress materials and construction by cutting each one open. We also place a higher value on brands that manufacture their mattresses in America and use environmentally conscious materials.

How to Find the Best King-Size Mattress for You

Everyone has different mattress needs, depending on body type, ideal sleep position, and pre-existing health conditions. Your sleep quality is directly tied to your work performance, quality of life, and ability to think clearly. The right king mattress is also a great productivity tool, if you think about it!

Here’s what to consider when selecting the best king mattress for you.

Sleep Position

You may enjoy sleeping on your back, side, stomach, or a combination. Back sleepers may benefit from a king-size mattress, thanks to the extra space for stretching your legs and arms. A king mattress may be an advantage for side sleepers, too, as it can allow you to adjust your arms and legs to get comfortable or sprawl out. Stomach sleepers, too, may like the extra horizontal space a king mattress has to offer. Plus, for folks who tend to switch positions, king beds offer plenty of space for shifting.

Weight and Height

If you’re over 6 feet tall, you’ll have plenty of room to move around and shift positions in a king mattress without having to curl up, since it is 80 inches long and has a wider width of 76 inches. People with higher weights may also  benefit from a king-sized mattress too, as kings help to more evenly distribute weight across a larger surface area. If you’d like additional legroom or are over 6’4”, a California king is 84 inches long, providing 4 inches of extra length support from head to toe!

Room Size

A standard king-size mattress is 76 inches wide and 80 inches long, making it the widest standard mattress size available. While this is great for folks who co-sleep and want to maximize personal space (or have extra room for pets!), it’s important to know how this larger mattress will fit into your home. You may want to consider your bed frame size, accounting for about two to six inches on the sides and end of the mattress. In general, a bed frame range for a king mattress is typically 78 to 82 inches wide, and 82 to 86 inches long.

Mattress Material

Mattresses are frequently made with different types of material and varying layers. These materials may feel different to you and have multiple degrees of comfort depending on your personal preferences. Here are highlights and possible drawbacks to the most popular mattress materials:

  • Memory foam: Mattresses made of this material are usually great for pressure relief and motion reduction. Potential drawbacks of memory foam include possible trapping of heat, and the mattress may be less responsive overall.
  • Natural latex: Mattresses made with natural latex are typically more eco-friendly than other materials and are more breathable. Possible pitfalls are that this material may make a mattress too firm for some folks, and it may be more difficult to move due to weighing more.

  • Innerspring: Mattresses made with this material are bouncier than mattresses made with other materials. Innerspring also helps to promote good airflow – great if you tend to sleep hot. Potential drawbacks of this type of mattress are that it may be noisy, and may be less durable over time, wearing down faster than other materials.
  • Hybrid (combines foam and coils): Highlights of this type of mattress are that the combination of materials usually helps with comfort and feeling balanced. Hybrid mattresses may be heavier, and potentially more expensive than mattresses made with other materials.

It’s important to prioritize a supportive, high-quality product to get the most of your sleep, according to Andrea Matsumura, MD, MS, FACP, FAASM. “A poor-quality mattress can cause awakenings throughout the night due to discomfort, pressure build-up, or inadequate support,” she says. “This fragmentation of sleep reduces the time you spend in REM and deep sleep, both of which are essential for cognitive functioning, mood regulation, and physical recovery.”

Prior Aches and Pains

If you’ve experienced aches and pains, we recommend speaking with your doctor or other healthcare professional about the best type of king mattress for your condition(s). A professional will be able to review any pre-existing conditions and talk to you about possible chronic pain that you’d like to alleviate, then recommend a king mattress type to help best support you.

Certifications

When selecting a king mattress, consider its third-party certifications. These certifications provide independent, non-profit verification that a mattress is made with quality materials and are eco-conscious.

Here are a few certifications that are important to keep in mind:

  • Global Organic Textile Standard (aka GOTS): Ensures that organic textiles are sourced in a socially and environmentally conscious way
  • Global Organic Latex Standard (aka GOLS): Ensures that the organic latex utilized is sourced in an environmentally responsible way
  • CertiPUR-US ®: Certifies the safety of foam and its emissions
  • GREENGUARD Gold: Certifies that the materials emit a low level of chemicals, making the products suitable for safe use indoors

Cost

When it comes to buying a king mattress, we understand that folks have different preferences and considerations for their budget. There are multiple factors that play a part in what you feel comfortable spending.

A good king mattress allows you to mentally reset overnight and prepares you to be productive and alert during your demanding and busy workday. Ultimately, selecting a quality king mattress will enhance your life, helping you to be at the top of your game, which is a great return on your investment.

Different Types of King-Size Mattresses

There are several types of king mattresses, all of which have slightly different dimensions. For example, a California King is about 4 inches longer than a regular King, which is great for taller folks.
